Who must be registered for UIF in South Africa?

Anyone who works for you more than 24 hours a month must be registered for UIF. Contributions are 1% from them and 1% from you, on earnings up to the ceiling. This applies to household and business employers alike.

Yes - for staff in a private household a payslip is required on every pay day, cash or not, regardless of how many staff you have. No format is prescribed, so handwritten is compliant.

The national minimum wage is R30.23 an hour from 1 March 2026. There is no separate lower rate for household staff - it is the same floor as everyone else.
